Day 1:
Our fall foliage adventure begins this morning as we head to the original site of the legendary Woodstock Festival of 1969 in Bethel, New York. The award-winning Museum at Bethel Woods relives Woodstock, the civil rights movement, the race to the moon, fashions of the decade and video footage of the Woodstock Festival.
Later, we check into our hotel for two nights, The Hotel Anthracite, in the former mining town of Carbondale, Pennsylvania. Your restored hotel offers beautiful ambiance, modern rooms, excellent dining and rich history. Tonight, we will enjoy dinner at the hotel. (Dinner included)
Day 2:
After breakfast we will ride the rails through the fall colors along the Lackawaxen River and the beautiful Poconos Mountains aboard the Stourbridge Line Rail. We’ll enjoy an historic narration along with colorful splendor.
Upon our return, we head to Scranton, Pennsylvania known for its era of coal mining and railroading. We will enjoy a buffet lunch at the stunning Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel. Within the walls of this elegant hotel is what is considered the most beautiful train station ever built with its original 1908 splendor.
After lunch we will go down in history--300 feet beneath the surface of the earth at the restored Lackawanna Coal Mine. On this guided tour we will see where the men and boys worked to heat a nation and fuel the conversion of the nation’s economy from agricultural to industry.
Afterwards we head next door to the Anthracite Museum. Enjoy the stories of the people who came from Europe to work in the anthracite coal mining and textile industries. You’ll be welcomed into their homes, neighborhoods and lives as you relive this historic bygone era.
Later in the afternoon we return to our hotel where we can relax and enjoy dinner and the evening.
(Breakfast and Lunch included)
Day 3:
Today’s it all about entertainment. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then midmorning we take our seat to enjoy fun, food and music at their annual Germanfest.
Enjoy a strudel making demonstration by the chef; open bar with draft beer, wine and soda; music and dancing; and a German Show with the Joe Lastovia Band. Enjoy a spirited mix of German music, old favorites and contemporary classics. Traditional costumes, an Alpine Horn and Bavarian Act, German Olympic games and authentic German dishes will make this an entertaining experience.
We return home with fond memories of our fall foliage adventure.
